One second.
Two seconds.
Three seconds.
Four.

More time keeps passing until he walks through that door.

If I don’t think of the minutes and I don’t think of the days,
If I don’t think of the hours that never pass away.
If I don’t think of no kisses and I don’t think no hugs,
If I don’t think of silence that comes from above,
If I don’t think of the memories he missing right now,
If I don’t think of the holidays that he isn’t around,
If I don’t think of the laughs his ears can not hear,
If I don’t think of the giggles and I don’t think of the tears,
If I don’t think of the sadness that keeps filling my heart,
If I don’t think of the madness that tears me apart,
If I don’t think of the kids and the questions they ask,
If I don’t think of the kisses that get mailed to dad,
If I don’t think of the empty side of the bed,
If I don’t think of the memories that run through my head.

Then I can get through the seconds.
I can get through the pain.
I can get through my teardrops that fall down like rain.
I can get through the pillow smelling less and less like him.
I can get through the lying of a paper and a pen.
I can get through the times the phone never rings.
I can get through the times I have only my dreams.
I can get through the questions the kids often ask.
I can get through the times other wives see through my mask.

One second.
Two seconds.
Three seconds.
Four.

My name is Katrina. I am an ARMY wife! hooah!! My husband is not yet deployed but i was thinking of the time to come and wrote this. I have one son and one on the way. I have a few friends at Ft. Campbell and I often think of all the things they have been through. Some things in this poem does not apply to me yet, but soon will. I hope you enjoy and please leave a comment. I love criticism of both types!!
