Okay okay, I'm often told I'm a little too weird about my files (I happen to be an organizing junkie), but they help! Today we're going to talk about the Travel File. My Travel File is more like a giant three ring binder rather than a folder. This entry will highlight a few things I've found to be very helpful during our PCS.
Okay okay, I'm often told I'm a little too weird about my files (I happen to be an organizing junkie), but they help! Today we're going to talk about the Travel File. My Travel File is more like a giant three ring binder rather than a folder. The Travel File should contain the following (the basics, feel free to add if you can think of anything):
- Your Roadside Assistance Account Number and Phone Number
- Total estimated travel time and mileage
- Large Envelope (to hold receipts)
- Pens, Pencils, Hightlighters
- Emergency Contact Numnbers
- Maps
- Phone Numbers to both the old and new Command
- Paperwork pertaining to your household goods shipments
- Base Housing Office Location and/or list of places to check out once you get there
- Copy of Orders
I'm sure there's lots of other things you can think of to include but this comes off the top of my head. You might want to keep a few friends on speed dial (that have access to a computer) in case your map is slightly outdated or your GPS goes nuts. The first PCS we ever did I had to call up a friend to verify directions. Just be patient and try not to kill each other during the car ride.
Good luck and happy PCSing!
